GM,
Welcome back to DISCO BEATS. Let’s dive in and look back at July - a month full of adventures in Paris, live experiments, and deep discussions about verifiability.

ETHCC: A Week in Paris to Remember
We’re still buzzing about our time in Paris for EthCC, where we got to hang out with many of you. (We miss you already!) Some of our brilliant team members spoke at various events and panels, sharing their expertise and thoughts on identity and data ownership in the metaverse.
Here's a glimpse of our highlights:
💧Drops: A Credential Experiment
We often ask ourselves: “Why would somebody would want to create a DID?” We’re focused on empowering people to take control of their data, and while we’ve had numerous iterations of our onboarding process, we set out to run real-world, lightweight experiments (empowered by our API) to more deeply explore user behaviors and experiences.
Our first experiment was the Claim page, seen at EthCC, using these objectives:
Issue credentials en-masse: Our team at EthCC was able to issue credentials for meeting someone IRL or attending an event, simply by showing a QR code linking you to a Claim page, proving a more seamless and relevant entry point to issuing and claiming credentials.
Allow people to claim credentials even without already having a data backpack: When attending event or meeting someone IRL, you’re not thinking about your Data Backpack. A claim link instead is a more relevant action based on the IRL interaction, an existing backpack holders could instantly create a proof of that experience in the moment.
Pin-point issues in the authentication process: Several people still faced challenges in generating their identifiers (DID) at EthCC, which validated our ongoing efforts to take ownership of the issue and enhance user experiences, and isolated the issues. Improvements are coming soon!
We’ll be expanding our claims, allowing any user to spin up their own link, gate who can claim, and manage the link even *after* publishing. Please reach out if this is something you’re interested in using!
🌱 The Future is Onchain
Our very own Head of Eco, Masha Healy, gave a keynote presentation at the Celo Co:Operate Summit on the reality of multifaceted identities we all carry. She shared how verifiable credentials work in tandem with onchain transactions to cultivate more meaningful data capture and expression, and provide a layer of rich social interoperability that gives more meaning to scaling.
📹 Verifiable video, authenticity, and provenance of onchain media
We joined @broadcastitbabe @Livepeer @BundlrNetwork and @onvessel_world at the Broadcast Summit to talk about verifiable video, and authenticity and provenance of onchain media. Our take? Signatures all the way down!
How can web3 tech provide economic guarantees for the next wave of onchain media creators? We explored how co-creation through onchain incentives and multiplayer signing can power media ownership and value share. We also emphasize the role of multiplayer in saying that this future is possible via collaboration — blending how web2 platforms and structures can utilize web3 tools to power a stronger, more secure, and verifiable future for people on the internet.
💫 SheFi Summit: Personal experiences as a founder
Our CEO, Evin McMullen shared her experiences as a founder alongside some fabulous women and on a panel at the inaugural SheFi Summit, the “biggest femme power summit at EthCC.”
⚡️Key Takeaways: Privacy, data verifiability, and sybil resistance continue to be hot topics
We learned that many projects lack a means of understanding and engaging with their users effectively. For instance, relying solely on public transaction data makes it challenging (almost impossible) to identify and comprehend different kinds of behaviors by community contributors that aren’t onchain. Disco aims to add nuance to the data we capture while prioritizing privacy, allowing issuers to request and validate data from users without storing it themselves.
Sybil resistance is a growing concern, especially with AI advancements and upiquity. Verifiable credentials play a crucial role in distinguishing human behaviors, such as event attendance, irl connections, and contributions, from bot behaviors.
We're stoked to collaborate with builders dedicated to creating a more secure and fun internet for us, by us. What are you most excited about after EthCC?
